From Kimono to Street style: navigating fashion in japan

Out of all 22 countries I have traveled to, Japan by far has the most jaw dropping fashion. Everyone, and I mean everyone - from business men to train janitors - have on a stylish outfit. If you want to fit in and make a stylish impression in Japan, here are some tips for putting together an outfit that blends with the local fashion scene.

Opt for a Polished Look: Japanese fashion often prioritizes a clean and polished appearance.

Stick to Neutral Colors: Neutral colors are a safe bet in Japan and are often favored in local fashion. Consider wearing shades of black, gray, navy, and white as the foundation of your outfit. These colors are versatile, timeless, and tend to blend very well with the overall aesthetic in Japan.

Comfortable Shoes: Packing a comfortable pair of shoes is the most important thing you could bring to Japan. I learned my lesson and ended up buying a pair of New Balances in Japan because by the end of the day my feet would feel pain I didn't know was possible. I ended up wearing those New Balances every day with every outfit for 2 weeks - they went with everything.

Biker Jackets: Definitely one of my favorite pieces I packed for my trip to Japan. Biker jackets are a statement piece so they make putting an outfit together easy; all you need is solid bottoms, a basic top, and a biker jacket and there you have a trendy street-style outfit that looks well thought out.

Wearing White: Japan is the CLEANEST place on earth...literally. This is the only place where you can wear an all-white outfit and not worry that your going to be stuck all day with a stain. Public transportation is the cleanest and most efficient way to get around Japan in the world.
